Have you gone 1:1 and don't know the next steps or how you can embrace and embed technology to ensure that it is truly transformational on teaching and learning? In this session, you will see, find, create, and curate Open Educational Resources (OERs) including Hyperdocs. Effective use of OER resources requires connections to standards and assessments, something that textbooks traditionally integrated for teachers. This session will also demonstrate and allow you to learn strategies and resources for turning OER content into curriculum through best practices in digital lesson design. Lastly, you will explore rubrics for evaluating digital content.

This session will delve into the meaning and relevance of equity within educational environments. Furthermore, we will explore how to create spaces that foster inclusivity and support identity development.

There are tried-and-true traditional teaching strategies we all value and, when combined with the latest innovative approaches, can be enhanced and improved. For example: lecture + digital formative assessment, analytical essay + book promo video, research + podcast creation, data analysis + infographic design, and much more! In this course, you’ll be encouraged to adopt a growth mindset as you reimagine how teaching and learning is changing in response to our rapidly changing world. We’ll identify times when digital tools should be used, and times when they should NOT be used. You’ll have a chance to redesign existing lessons to incorporate traditional and innovative approaches so that you’re finding the perfect balance in education.

Parents and teachers are often at odds with the children they care about most. There are misunderstandings about how to use our ubiquitous technology and how to properly balance quality face-to-face time with necessary screen time. If we want students to be able to stay focused at school and at home while using devices that provide constant temptation and distraction, we must teach them about the research behind multitasking. Learn about the latest findings on how the brain is affected when we use screen technology, and how we can use this information to empower our students to be more focused, creative, and engaged while they are learning. Find out what students say when they learn this way and how they feel about school when technology is a no longer a distraction, but rather a powerful learning tool.

Adults, teens, and children spend more time with their fingers and faces on screens than ever before. Should we be worried? How is is this changing our brains? This session will review the latest neurological research around screen use. Then we will talk about concrete actionable teaching strategies to use in the classroom with students of all ages to build the skills necessary to navigate our digital world successfully. Participants will leave the session able to differentiate between effective uses of technology and pure distraction.
